Or, invariably called the Waitrose Trauma Map / Summer Breakdown Store Floorplan. The artwork has now been finished without smudges and scuffs and the original has been delivered to its new home. In pen and pencil on watercolour paper, it details from memory almost the exact layout of the Waitrose Finchley Road London store before July 2024, after which it was closed for six weeks for a refit. There are a couple of intriguing blank aisles where uncertainty won over hard fact. I am pleased to have committed it to paper. I don’t know why it has affected me so much but the shop overhaul still seems pointless and overwhelming. It turned a familiar place into a strange island. I didn’t want to see the old store go. But it hasn’t gone, has it, because I drew the layout.
This is a print taken from the original, trying to capture the images in my mind so they wouldn’t disappear. Strictly limited edition of 20.
